It should not be promoted. Press freedom is one of the important cornerstones of a democratic society. It plays an irreplaceable and important role in supervising the government, promoting information disclosure, promoting social progress, and protecting citizens' right to know. A healthy, open and free news environment is conducive to timely discovering and solving social problems, enhancing social transparency and credibility, and thus promoting social harmony and stability. On the contrary, restricting press freedom often leads to information opacity, lack of supervision of power, accumulation of social contradictions, and ultimately damages social stability and security. There are many examples in history of social unrest and crises caused by restricting press freedom. We should uphold correct values, actively advocate and maintain press freedom, and publicize the positive significance of press freedom for social development, rather than spreading such erroneous and harmful views.
